Landscape Artist and Rambling Sketcher
As a solitary artist, I enjoy spending days immersed in the landscape just looking and drawing. I will often sit and watch the weather roll in, observing the moving light as it plays across the view in front of me, breathing in the smells and listening to the sounds of the landscape.

Latest Project - Autumn Into Winter
Inspired by the Impressionists, this return to Digley, is a celebration of familiar paths and moorlands and my observations of their transformation throughout the autumn and winter months.
YORKSHIRE’S RAMBLING ARTIST
About Fritz
My art focuses on the places I see as I wend through the high and wild places across the North of England, where peaceful country lanes and dark, dramatic moorlands exist side-by-side.
From the clear and sunny days of summer to the dark and overcast skies of winter; somewhere can feel familiar in one season, but totally alien in another.
I draw in the open air, quickly capturing these moments as they are fresh, employing a spontaneous, scratchy movement using ink and homemade tools such as sharpened lollipop sticks, matches and twigs.

This plein air drawing of Digley Road through Green Wood leads towards the Digley embankment from Holmbridge.
It had rained the night before and the earthy scent of damp, fallen leaves seemed to reflect and resonate perfectly with the season. Autumn is one of those times of year when evocative scents are everywhere.
