Snow On Snow is a limited edition pack of six greetings cards with envelopes. The sketches feature the paths and tracks from my walks over our Moorland paths and tracks.
The pack of cards are now available to order. Last date for orders before Christmas is Tuesday 12 December.
Card No.1 - Pristine White
Broad Lane, Ox Hey Top - Winter Lane No.2
This drawing is of Broad Lane as it climbs over Ox Hey Top towards Height’s Church. I sketched the original after Storm Larisa when the snow made everything that little bit brighter. This phenomenon is called the albedo-effect, where clean white fresh snow reflects 80-95% of the light that hits it almost doubling the amount of light we observe.
The original work will be available to purchase from the Swan Inn in Dobcross from Saturday 18 November.
Card No.2 - Bitter Sky
Moor Lane, Dowry Gate - Winter Lane No.1
This footpath from Dowry Castle Hill becomes Moor Lane as it heads into Saddleworth. It ends at the junction of Broad Lane, Ox Hey Lane and Low Gate Lane next to the Broadhead Noddle. The TV mast on top of Wharmton Hill in the distance is a conspicuous feature from all over Saddleworth.
The original work will be available to purchase from the Swan Inn in Dobcross from Saturday 18 November.
Card No.3 - First Snow
Pots & Pans, Stable Stones Brow & Wimberry Rocks (Indians Head)
I sketched this after the snow storm had passed. A very cold wind was blowing from the West and I was struck by the brilliant white of the drifting snow that had filled the paths.
The original work will be available to purchase from the Swan Inn in Dobcross from Saturday 18 November.
A limited edition print is also available. Please email me for more information.
Card No.4 - Descending Storm
St Thomas’ Church, Friarmere, Delph Heights
This is a sketch that I started outdoors during Storm Larisa, but went home to finish it. The wind, snow and whipping branches sent me packing to a warm fire and a bottle of Timothy Taylor’s Landlord. Storm Larisa brought heavy snowfall to the United Kingdom, Belgium & Netherlands 8–10 March 2023.
The original work will be available to purchase from the Swan Inn in Dobcross from Saturday 18 November.
A limited edition print is also available. Please email me for more information.
Card No.5 - Winter Sycamore
Edgehill, Delph in the snow
In ancient Britain, sycamore trees were believed to be sacred. Druids considered sycamore trees held magical powers and were capable of giving spiritual guidance. The seeds were used in divination, as they were believed to provide insight into the future. They were also used in love spells and other magical workings.
The original work will be available to purchase from the Swan Inn in Dobcross from Saturday 18 November.
A limited edition print is also available. Please email me for more information.
Card No.6 - Peaceful Waters
Alderman’s Hill & Dove Stone & Yeoman Hey Reservoirs
I painted this view of the valley from the Holmfirth Road above Upper Wood. The wind was howling, but the water in the reservoirs below was as calm as a millpond. The trees on the far right are part of the Bill o’ Jack’s Plantation.
The original work will be available to purchase from the Swan Inn in Dobcross from Saturday 18 November.
