Walking up to Diggle - Navigation Lock (25W)
I finished this drawing in the early morning light sat on the canal towpath opposite Victoria Quay at Dobcross. Its name comes from the Navigation pub on Wool Road which is visible, but not easily accessible. The lock, on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal, is one of a series of eight just below the summit tunnel that has two single gates. These locks known as the Diggle Flight were designed by the famous canal engineer Thomas Telford.
I like to walk up the canal towpath to Diggle in the early morning; you get the route to yourself. The light creates fantastic colour contrast in the trees and reflections on the water. I am looking forward to Autumn now. Bring on the gold.
